All The Things I Eat

Deep Fried Cheeseburger

I visited a friend in Ohio and all I got was this deep fried cheeseburger.

What is it about American midwestern cuisine that requires everything touch the deep frier? Don’t think I’m complaining, I’m just saying, that’s how it is.

I tried to look up the restaurant where I ate this artery clogger, but I couldn’t find the place because so many bars in Columbus, Ohio were offering their own deep fried cheeseburger.

Truth be told, I was expecting more. I wanted the beef to be tender with globs of hot cheese melting from the inside, like a rice ball where the rice has been substituted for ground beef. No such luck, apparently.

The exterior was a bit crispier than an ordinary burger, and other than the extra grease, there wasn’t anything all that special about this burger.

Taylor Ham, Egg and Cheeseburger

Combine the world’s greatest breakfast sandwich with a great hamburger, and you get the taylor ham, egg and cheeseburger.

I’ve written about the taylor ham, egg and cheese breakfast sandwich before. But here is a dinner version served up with a hamburger too.

After a long, hot night of cleaning out my old apartment in preparation to move, my soon to be former roommate and I wanted some late night dinner. We both wound up ordering this delicious, if greasy, bastard child of breakfast and dinner.

Actually, adding ham and eggs to burgers is a fairly common practice in many places, particularly in heavy pork producing countries. So its not all that far off in left field.

Bacon Cheddar Burger

Bacon and cheddar burger from the Burger Box Truck

The Burger Box, a Newark based food truck, makes a solid burger.

The crumbling city of Newark of Newark, New Jersey is home to a Rutgers University campus. I’ve been attending graduate school there for the last few years and finding an after work, before class meal is always a challenge. Wasn’t I happy to find a food truck offering up local, hormone beef burgers.

The burger actually came in a box as the truck promised. The shredded onion bits were a take it or leave it but mostly leave it affair. But the burger was juicy and loaded with pickles and lettuce and tomato.

Flipster’s Bacon Cheddar Burger

Sometimes a burger loaded with bacon, cheddar and vegetables is just what you want.

In this case I had been walking around Park Slope with some friends. We asked for a table outside and just as we began regretting the decision — a cool breeze had sprung up — the burgers arrived.

We forgot about the nip in the air.

We also ate some Zucchini Sticks.
