Bánh Mì Hot Dog

Fusing Vietnamese cuisine and American hot dogs? Yeah, I’ll have that.

I was up in a cabin near Woodstock, New York celebrating a friend’s birthday when everyone had the brilliant idea to take a hike up to Kaaterskill Falls. None of us had bothered eating lunch at that point, so after a strenuous uphill and equally strenuous downhill trek, we stopped at hot dog stand along the way home.

The menu listed the usual assortment of dogs, but I knew the Bánh Mì dog was for me. I was in the middle of nowhere New York State about to eat a hot dog and here was one with pâté and vegetables. Yeah, obviously that was the choice.

With just the addition of a bit of hot sauce, the bánh mì dog hit the spot. I’ve had better bánh mì and I’ve had better hot dogs, but never together. I would definitely eat again, if I could only find the hot dog stand.
